Seven-year-old mare Dare I Ask registered her second metropolitan win when saluting at Caulfield on Wednesday in the $35,000 The Cove Hotel Handicap (1440m) under the guidance of apprentice Regan Bayliss.
Having broke her metropolitan drought second-up at Sandown this campaign for brother Jake Bayliss – the claim once again proved a logical move by trainer Shawn Mathrick with the daughter of King Of Prussia carrying just 51 kilograms to victory.
Previously trained by Ray Cleaver for six victories – two metropolitan wins in nine runs under Mathrick’s care now takes Dare I Asks earnings beyond $170,000. Dictating the speed from barrier two the horse was able to lead all the way at just her second attempt around the specialist Caulfield circuit.
Installed a safe $4.60 chance on the back of a solid performance at Sandown two start prior the mare was a popular result for punters.
The win capped an impressive day for Cranbourne based Mathrick who had Our Nkwazi flash home for fourth meanwhile Beacons failed in a photo finish when well supported to give the stable a double.
